A North Carolina man was arrested and charged for DWI, driving with a revoked license and reckless driving after he crashed into a semi truck on I-77 on June 13, 2011, according to the Charlotte Observer. The alleged drunk driver was behind the wheel of a Ford Mustang when, police say, he drove the wrong-way and ran head on into a tractor-trailer near Cornelius, NC.

We’ve unfortunately seen far too many instances of drunk drivers causing accidents while driving the wrong way. Luckily, in this crash the driver of the semi truck was not injured. However, there was so much damage to the front of his truck, that it was not drivable. Imagine if a sports car can cause that level of damage on a truck, the effects of it crashing into a smaller vehicle. If the wrong-way driver hit a sedan or mini van carrying children, the results could have been deadly.

This is not the drivers’ first arrest for DWI. Miraculously, he has not killed or seriously injured anyone else with his reckless driving. In a state like North Carolina where alcohol contributes to 31 percent of all serious car accidents and car wreck deaths, it is disheartening to think that this man and so many drunk drivers repeatedly endanger the lives of others through their thoughtless actions. Far too often, people tragically lose their loved ones because of another’s carelessness on the roadway. These people should be held accountable for the pain and suffering they cause.
