Bus Driver of Greyhound is Charged in Fatal Wreck in Goldsboro

A fatal bus wreck happened in Goldsboro last Saturday that holds the bus driver squarely at fault. Police have charged the driver of a Greyhound bus in an accident that has killed a 62-year-old pickup truck driver.
The Greyhound bus had run a red light while going west on U.S. Highway 70/West Grantham Street, approaching the Interstate 795 juncture, shortly before 4 p.m. The bus struck a Mazda pickup truck that had entered the intersection from the I-795 off-ramp.
The victim, Leroy James Scofield, was from Thomasville, North Carolina (N.C.). Scofield was ejected from the pickup and was pronounced dead at the scene. Two bus passengers were treated and released from Wayne Memorial Hospital. The bus driver, Catherine Lytch, of Sumter, S.C., was charged with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle and failure to stop for a red light.
According to the police report there were twenty-six passengers on board the Greyhound bus. An investigation determined Scofield was not wearing a seat belt, as well.
