Co-Owner of the Charlotte Bobcats Killed in Plane Accident

William “Skipper” Beck, co-owner of the Charlotte Bobcats NBA franchise, tragically died on a plane accident. The single-engine plane Skipper was piloting crashed at the Rock Hill York County Airport after taking off, according to the Charlotte Observer.
The Federal Aviation Administration said Beck was the only person aboard the Cirrus SR22 plane. After take off, the plane quickly returned to the airport and crashed as it tried to land.
"Skipper loved basketball and was instrumental in bringing the Bobcats to Charlotte. As an owner, he was without question the Bobcats greatest fan. We will miss him at courtside," said Bob Johnson, majority owner of the Cats.

There were 596 “general aviation” accidents in 2008, according to the National Transportation Safety Board. Fortunately, that number appears to be decreasing in 2009, but as indicated by the tragic news above, terrible accidents still occur that take people from us far too soon.
