Albemarle County Virginia UPS Truck Crash Injures Four

A two-vehicle crash took place on Richmond Road in Albemarle County, Virginia which involved a Toyota Camry and a tractor-trailer truck. According to investigators, a 1992 Toyota Camry driven by an 18 year old girl was travelling east on Richmond Road and turned left onto eastbound I-64 in front of the truck. The Ford tractor-trailer owned by United Parcel Service which was driven by Earl Wray crashed directly into the Camry. This particular intersection has a traffic signal.

All four occupants of the Toyota Camry including Logan were transported to UVA Hospital and were treated for the injuries they sustained. It was reported that the UPS driver was not injured. The Camry was completely totalled, while the tractor trailer sustained an estimated $30,000 worth of damage. Although the young lady was at fault for failing to yield the right of way, the passengers in the car where at the total mercy of the driver and were injured through no fault of their own.

Drivers are expected to follow all rules that govern traffic and not taking heed of traffic signals will surely not end well for the driver and the unwilling victims known as the passengers. Although riding along with a friend seems perfectly normal, it is important to pay attention to the driver’s physical and emotional state of mind, especially prevalent with younger and less experienced drivers.

Tractor-Trailer Accident Causes Fatality in Concord, North Carolina

A tractor-trailer owned by Martin's Abbatoir Wholesale Meat Company carrying a truck load of cattle over turned on Interstate 85 in Concord, North Carolina (NC) injuring one person and killing the driver.

Sgt. Garrett Barger from the North Carolina Highway Patrol told reporters, “The driver either fell asleep or had some kind of medical condition, ran off the road to the right, traveled 600-800 feet and hit the other guard rail. The truck overturned, made a huge hole in the top of the trailer and several of the cows got out.” The North Carolina Highway Patrol had to call in volunteers and a group of local cowboys to clean up the tractor-trailer accident. The cowboys searched surrounding areas and found escaped cattle over two exits away.

At the time of the accident there were two people inside the tractor-trailer. The driver, Lloyd Ward, died at the scene of the accident. Another passenger who was asleep in the trailer’s sleeper cabin was seriously injured. The other passenger was also a driver for Martin's Abbatoir Wholesale Meat Company and was sleeping before his turn to drive.

Falling asleep at the wheel or succumbing to medical conditions while driving can prove tragic and sadly Lloyd Ward lost his life. While the other passenger in the tractor-trailer accident luckily survived, he will likely suffer through an extended recovery process. Being the passenger in a serious accident is difficult to bear. Man Airlifted to Hospital after a Fiery Tanker-Truck Accident in Fayetteville, North Carolina

The driver of a tanker-truck remains in the hospital with severe burn injuries after a trucking accident on Interstate 95 in Cumberland County, North Carolina (NC).

It all started when the driver of a smaller pick up truck ran out of gas on Interstate 95 in Fayetteville, North Carolina (NC). A semi-truck stopped suddenly to avoid hitting the man on the highway. Frankie Graves of Goldsboro, North Carolina was following in his tanker truck behind the semi-truck; Grieves crashed in to the semi-truck, hitting the guard rail. The tanker truck he was driving caught fire. Graves was air lifted to the hospital.

No one else was injured in the truck accident, but Frankie Graves remains in the hospital with burns over 40% of his body.

Tragically, Graves likely faces a lengthy hospital stay and recovery period. Burn injuries are extremely painful and have a difficult treatment process. Burn injuries can affect not only the skin, but muscle tissue, blood and blood vessels as well. They can cause severe scarring and skin graft may be necessary to allow the victim to heal. Tractor-Trailer Crash Closes Down I-26 in North Carolina

A tractor-trailer crashed in the westbound lane of Interstate 26 in the Polk County, North Carolina section of the highway on Friday morning hurting the driver with non-life threatening injuries. The eighteen-wheeler flipped and spilled its load causing traffic to pause for about 4 hours.

As indicated by authorities familiar with the accident, the tractor-trailer crashed at the 62 mile marker and blocked both lanes of traffic on the interstate. According to Channel 7 News, emergency responders there was entrapment involved with the accident and a medical helicopter was being sent to the scene.

North Carolina Highway Patrol reported that the driver was heading up the grade when he ran off the road, and then over corrected. The tractor-trailer’s load was full with ocean-going containers. These containers were not properly secured, causing them to shift which made the trailer part of the big-rig to flip over onto the interstate.

The wreckage caused over 380 feet of guardrail to be destroyed. The truck driver had non-life threatening injuries. As mentioned an entire lane of the interstate was closed for 4 hours, and all lanes were closed for awhile while they extracted the driver who was trapped in the cab, he was later flown to Spartanburg Regional.

An 18-wheeler truck traveling at 70 miles per hour has twice as much energy as one at 50 mph. In addition, automobiles are designed under Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards to encounter like size vehicles, not 80,000 pound trucks. Added hazards include the absence of rear and side bumpers and high front bumpers that punch into automobile passenger compartments. Together these factors account for the high percentage of serious injuries and deaths in these crashes.

Two Trucks Collide in Currituck County Closing N.C. 168

A recent two truck collision occurred on NC Highway 168 in Currituck County that involved an 18-wheel truck and a beer truck. They collided on N.C. 168 about 10 a.m. blocking both lanes of the five-lane highway.

According to authorities the traffic was diverted to Snowden Road on the north side of the accident and to N.C. 34 on the south side for most of the remaining day. The collision happened just north of the intersection of N.C. 168 and N.C. 34.

Fortunately, there are no known serious injuries according to Currituck County Sheriff Susan Johnson. One of the trucks spilled about 25 gallons of fuel and Currituck County Emergency Management handled the spill.

Sheriff Johnson said that the 18-wheeler had turned over and was lying across the all lanes of traffic. The N.C. State Highway Patrol and the Currituck County Sheriff's Office are investigating the accident.

Accident Closes Hwy. 380 for Several Hours

After a tractor trailer and car collided on Hwy. 380 near Vanceboro, North Carolina (NC). The traffic was stopped for a few hours. On Friday, April 3, at 6:16 a.m., during the morning rush hour, Darell Johnson of Louisburg, N.C. was attempting to turn his tractor trailer around on Hwy. 380 near CR 697.

According to the accident report Johnson was making the turn on Hwy 380, when John Sutterfield of Princeton, North Carolina (NC), who was driving a 1996 gold Saturn, drove straight into the truck becoming lodged underneath the trailer.

Farmersville Police Officer Greg Perkins said that both east and westbound sides of Hwy. 380 were blocked.

Traffic had remained blocked until shortly before 8 a.m. when a tow truck was finally able to lift the tractor trailer truck enough to dislodge the car from underneath it.

Sutterfield suffered minor injuries, and Johnson was not injured. The Farmersville Police Department assisted the Collin County Sheriff’s Office with the accident.

Two Tractor Trailers and Three Cars Crash in Chain Reaction Pile Up

Firefighters and police crews were on the scene of a crash that involved two tractor trailers and three cars in Tarboro, North Carolina (NC). Although the accident had involved several vehicles, there have been no reported fatalities among those involved.

The multi-vehicle accident occurred just after 2 p.m. at the intersection of Highway 64 East and the Howard Avenue exit outside the town of Tarboro, North Carolina (NC). One of the tractor trailers involved overturned along the highway.

According to initial reports there has been one injury described as not life threatening. North Carolina State troopers who were on the scene said wet conditions were believed to have played a part in the multi-tractor trailer crash.

The left-hand lane of Highway 64 East had remained closed after the incident and did not open back up until after 5:00 p.m. causing traffic delays. Witnesses and some of the victims in the accident agreed that everyone involved were very fortunate as the crash could have been much worse.

Virginia Tractor-Trailer Accident Kills Three

A Canadian family heading south on Interstate 77 in Virginia was involved in a tractor-trailer accident Thursday evening. Three people were killed and two were injured. The accident happened in Wyeth County.

Conroy said the father was operating a Dodge Durango pulling a 35-foot camper and headed southbound on the interstate around 7 p.m. He apparently lost control of the vehicle, crossed the median and hit a northbound tractor-trailer rig head on, the sergeant said.

The victims were the 33-year-old father, 35-year-old mother, and 7-year-old daughter. The two other daughters were taken to Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. The extent of their injuries is unknown. The driver of the tractor-trailer was not injured in the accident.

Truck Spills Fuel in Greenville

A tractor-trailer driving on Greenville Boulevard had a fuel tank punctured by a steel rod. The puncture caused the fuel tank to leak, spilling over 30 gallons of diesel fuel on the road. The trucking accident happened near 10th Street. Some of the fuel spilled into the Tar River.

"We were able to get there fairly quickly and put some sand on it and block most of it," Barrett said.
"Traffic was the biggest issue, keeping traffic away from (the spill) and keeping it from getting into the river," she said.
Greenville Police Department officers blocked traffic at the intersection of U.S. 264 Bypass and Old Pactolus Highway and at Greenville Boulevard and 10th Street.

Traffic was blocked from the area for a few hours. The Division of Water Quality's Surface Water Protection Section did not believe the small volume of fuel that entered the river would have an environmental impact. No one was injured in the accident.

Galveston Garbage Truck Accident Kills Three

A Monday morning garbage truck accident killed three people in Galveston County. The three victims were all riding in the garbage truck at the time of the accident.

The accident happened shortly before before 10 a.m. on the northbound feeder road of Interstate 45 at F.M. 1764 when the driver lost control, causing the truck to flip over before hitting a concrete pillar.

The victims were all killed immediately on impact. The cause of the accident is unknown and the Texas Department of Public Safety are continuing to investigate. Speed may have been a factor in the accident.
